Prerequisites
Placement test at levels A1-C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Course (A1 level) is provided for beginners; for on-going courses ( A2,B1, etc.) completed previous level is required

The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The goal of the course is to teach (or expand the students' knowledge of) general language at levels A1-B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference and to outline the foundations of professional language in the hotel industry and business environment. Students learn basic or extended forms of oral and written communication.

Knowledge: Upon successful completion of the course, students of JS010 will have a deeper and broader knowledge of general language skills, basical professional language terminology, and general communication according to the level. They will have learned the most commonly used communication patterns to be able to respond correctly in certain situations. During the first semester, students learn the basic grammar elements they will have to master thorughout the course.

Competencies: Students who have completed the course will be able to respond appropriately in situations that may occur in everyday life. They will learn to understand terms like "correo electrónico", will be able to talk about themselves, to describe their dwelling and its surroundings,to write a simple email,to fill in a form; they will be aware of nonverbal expressions in Spanish speaking countrie.

Skills: This course will help students to be able to make contact with other people and readily react in simple different situations that require the exchange of information. Students will be able to obtain and provide basic information on the topics covered in class.

Teaching methods
Class instruction is based on active student participation in dealing with select communicative situations both orally and in writing. Practical training takes the form of simulations of real-life scenarios focusing on situations in every-day life and professional environments. Simulations develop language skills and the ability to choose appropriate means of communication with respect to the specific situation and intercultural differences.
