Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge in the field of international trade and business activities. The introductory part of the course covers the role of international trade in the process of globalization of the world economy, basic theories and statistical reporting of international trade. The course introduces students to the issues of foreign trade policy of states, international economic integration and activities of trade promotion institutions. Subsequently, the subject of instruction will be the basics of strategy and operations in foreign trade, risk management, delivery and payment conditions and price issues in international trade. In the final part of the course, students will learn about the importance of foreign trade relations for the open economy of the Czech Republic. Attention will be paid to the conditions of development of world trade, which require appropriate modern management approaches in an environment of strong international competition.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
• understand the principles of conducting international trade in conditions of diversity of cultural, political, legal and economic environments;
• know the basic strategies of entering foreign markets and the process of their creation in the context of export operations, less capital-intensive and capital forms;
• gain insight into the implementation of operations in foreign trade and the preparation of a foreign trade contract, including the issues of risk management and the application of delivery, payment and price conditions.
