- JA 040 English language follows up on the subject JA 030, which combined general and professional language. Knowledge of professional language is further developed in JA040, with emphasis placed on creating and fixing the acquired knowledge and skills in general and professional language. Knowledge and skills are further developed and summarized in the follow-up course JA 052 English language.

- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to expand students’ knowledge of general language at levels B2-C1 according to CEFR and introduce specialized language for the hospitality industry and business environment. Students will expand on their ability to produce extended forms of oral and written communication.
Knowledge: Students of JA 040 will deepen and expand their language skills and learn about professional language terminology in the general working environment. They will learn to automatically use communication patterns to be able to react correctly in common professional situations.
During the fourth semester, the student will deepen and fix commonly used grammatical structures, common vocabulary and technical terminology.
Competencies: Upon completing the course students will be able to adequately respond in both everyday situations, and also to situations occurring in the work environment. Students will be able use the language to adequately express their views and to discuss the topic using a wide vocabulary.
Skills: This course teaches students to make contact with other people, readily react in different situations, both social and business, which require the exchange of information. Students will be able to obtain and provide information on the topics covered. Students will be able to readily and appropriately react in English, using a wide vocabulary - Syllabus
- 1. Occupations, ideal professions, vocabulary, creating new words, collocations, expressing real and unreal conditions
- 2. Interviews and techniques used in them, different types of questions, indirect speech
- 3. Description of the work process, prepositions used when describing
- 4. Intercultural problems in international companies, understanding these problems
- 5. Various modes of transportation, city descriptions, working with new vocabulary (collocations, thematic groups, derivations)
- 6. Terminology - correct meaning of terms and their correct use
- 7. Charity work - opportunities, applications, different types of projects and their descriptions
- 8. Business correspondence and its forms, vocabulary, useful phrases and expressions
- 9. Proper and appropriate responses in social contact avoiding intercultural misunderstandings
- 10. Reports and news from the world of politics, economics and society - form, content, vocabulary used
- 11. Firms and companies - history, present, prognosis for the future
- 12. Expressing opinions, both positive and negative reactions

- Teaching methods
- Instruction is based on the active participation of students in solving selected communicative situations, both oral and written. Practical training takes the form of simulations of real situations focusing on likely situations. Communication is developed in all common situations. Language skills are also developed along with the ability to select appropriate communication means with respect to the particular situation and intercultural differences. Emphasis is also placed on specific language, meaning the ability to respond not only in everyday life situations, but also in professional life.
