This research-in-progress paper, in its first phase, explores and describes the role of tourism taxes and the potential impacts on the competitiveness and attractiveness of destinations, providing comparative information in the form of an inventory of tourism-related taxes, based on an analytical study. It also highlights recent trends and interesting practices in South America.
