The subject of interest of this contribution is the analysis of regional elections in the Czech Republic in 2024, specifically the examination of the connections between national and regional politics. We will take the second-order elections concept of authors Karlheinz Reif and Hermann Schmitt and the later modified concept of Karlheinz Reif as a starting point. The emphasis will be placed on monitoring the positions of government parties (test of the verification character of second-order elections), the position of regional groupings and the roles of personalities. The election results of the candidate political entities confirm that the impact of national politics was confirmed in these elections, especially in the form of electoral successes of opposition parties. At the same time, however, the election results point to specific political conditions in some regions. In them, the government parties achieved electoral successes, but the source of their support primarily comes from regional conditions. The relevant factors here were a distinctive and specific election campaign emphasising regional topics and the associated strong regional anchoring. Here too, strong personalities at the head of the candidate played a role, and in some cases, they could represent a personnel alternative to representing the aforementioned parties at the national level.
