Průzkumy ukazují, že průměrný občan stráví 700 hodin ročně při cestování v dopravních prostředcích. Především v zemích s vysokorychlostní železniční dopravou se stává cestování po železnici stále více populárnější. Vlaky mohou vedle přepravy poskytnout i další služby, jedná se především o ubytovací a stravovací služby.

Surveys says that a common citizen passes 700 hours per year travelling in different means of transport. Especially in those countries which boast having high-speed railway transport, travelling by train is becoming more and more popular. Railways can offer, apart from transport services, accommodation services and catering services.
