The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire basic academic skills and expand language knowledge and skills to the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, with a special focus on the field of hospitality and tourism. Knowledge:The student will consolidate previously acquired general communication skills and deepen and expand more specialized forms of oral and written communication. Skills:The student should be able to choose appropriate means of communication depending on a particular communicative situation and should develop an active knowledge of standard Czech and a passive knowledge of general Czech. Competences:The acquired knowledge and skills should enable the student to communicate adequately and in a standard manner even in more specialized situations, both orally (presentations) and in writing (formal emails), and to better understand more demanding spoken (lectures) and written texts (textbooks, study materials).

  • Syllabus 1. Study of the Czech language, effective reading. 2. Orientation in the text, Czech phonetic system. 3. Study of foreign languages, Czech sentence structure. 4. Working with text, punctuation. 5. Writing and text correction, Czech declension. 6. Formal correspondence, predicate and verb. 7. Electronic communication, modal verbs. 8. Spoken communication, summarizing information. 9. Paraphrasing, subject and object in a sentence. 10. Study and education, reflexive verbs. 11. Spoken and written communication. 12. Review, text correction. 13. Summary of the material.

Teaching methods
Class instruction is based on active student participation in dealing with select communicative situations both orally and in writing. Practical training takes the form of simulations of real-life scenarios focusing on situations in every-day life and professional environments. Simulations develop language skills and the ability to choose appropriate means of communication with respect to the specific situation and intercultural differences.
