Anotation: Rhetoric is a course that not only provides information about the history of rhetoric, but also the requirements placed on rhetoric in everyday and professional life.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to explain the basic elements of communication, the communication function, the way of communication, but also to analyze today's form of communication practice. The course is devoted to the art of oratory itself, the personality of the speaker and the culture of the spoken word in history and the present, and aims to acquaint the audience with the theory and practice of oratory. By practicing, the listener gains self-confidence and confidence in speaking.
Syllabus
  • 1. Rhetoric is not only the art of the present (the art of oratory from antiquity to the 21st century).
  • 2. Basic means of communication.
  • 3. Etiquette, ethics, communication barriers, psychological aspects of rhetorical skills.
  • 4. Types of speeches: discussion paper, lecture, interview, political speech, ceremonial speech, conference paper, etc.
  • 5. Target group - who receives our information.
  • 6. Strategic preparation of rhetorical performance.
  • 7. Our senses. What we want to see - communication using pictures, graphs, symbols, maps, etc.
  • 8. Media - speech in the online space.
  • 9. Rhetorical performance in a prepared presentation – PowerPoint, social networks, telephone.
  • 10. Rhetoric in a critical situation – funeral ceremony, technical failure, unresponsive audience, etc.
  • 11. Nothing should be exaggerated - watch out for proverbs, comments, bad speech habits and your own limits.
  • 12. Body language at home may not have the same meaning as abroad.
  • 13. Speech, presentation, personality and evaluation of rhetorical performances of diplomacy personalities.
