The basic characteristics of a public good is the fact that there is to some extent “the exclusion of price „and no one can be prevented from using and consuming such a good. An example includes the defence of the country, drinking water supply but also artistic monuments. All people benefit from these goods, the sovereignty of the consumers prevails here. Culture is, in many forms, a source of income, and therefore also of profit. When it comes to the economic benefits of culture expenses, it is not only the renumeration of artists and turnovers of commercially and non-commercially run cultural institutions, but also revenues from the previous and follow-up areas of cultural events. The author was incited to write this contribution also of the argument which designated culture as a free time activity when justifying the measures against Covid 19. ER -
