Course objectives (in Czech)
At the end of the course the student is able to present knowledge related to preparing an academic text and the relevant standards (laws, regulations, ISO standards). The student is able to use knowledge related to scientific methodology, sociological and marketing research. He is able to choose an appropriate topic for his dissertation and choose the appropriate literature and sources. He can apply techniques for writing a dissertation, especially appropriate use of IT, the school’s information system, and accessible electronic databases.

• Students gain knowledge important for the bachelor dissertation. They will know the basic characteristics and parameters of professional writing, including the bachelor’s dissertation. They will understand the procedure for selection of the topic, producing the work, submission and finally, defense of the dissertation. They will also know about conditions for archiving the dissertation. Furthermore, students will know the structure of the various parts of the dissertation, their relationship and coherence.
• Students gains skills that enable them to begin work on preparing the dissertation. They will be able to work with research, notes and abstracts from other works and will be able to interpret scientific texts. They will also be able to produce their own professional/academic text.
• Students gain competencies based on putting the above knowledge into practice. These competencies are reflected in the student’s independence and corresponding ability in solving the problems examined.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • 1 Selecting a topic, approval, advising, preparing the thesis, archiving and defense of thesis.
  • 2. Techniques for writing an academic text, meaning and aim of the thesis.
  • 3. Frameworks and methods - survey research, comparative, case study, etc.
  • 4 Ethics. Work with literature and information sources, citations, copyright law.
  • 5. Structure and format
  • 6. Common errors when writing a thesis, responsibilities and rights of the student, thesis advisor and opponent
  • 7-9 Individual consultation with dissertation advisor
  • 10-12 Independent work on thesis

Students will submit a research proposal to the dissertation advisor to receive credit for the seminar.
