Prerequisites
JA030 - English language is the follow-up course to JA020 in which there is a general development of knowledge of the language as well as a focus on the individual fields of study offered at the school. Knowledge and skills are further developed and revised in the subsequent course - JA040 English language.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The goal of the course is to expand students’ knowledge of general language at levels B2-C1 according to CEFR and introduce specialized language for the hospitality industry and business environment. Students will expand on their ability to produce extended forms of oral and written communication.

Knowledge: Students if JA030 further enhance and expand their language skills and are familiarized with professional language terminology for general use and in the general working environment. They will learn the most commonly used communication patterns to be able to react correctly in all situations. During the third semester students will deepen and refine the basics of the most common grammar they must acquire.

Competencies: Upon completion of the course students will be able to respond appropriately in situations that may occur in the work environment. They will be able to discuss the topics covered and express their own opinions concerning the subjects.

Skills: This course will help students to be able to make contact with people and business partners and to react promptly and appropriately in various situations that arise from everyday contact in normal and professional life and relate to the topics covered. The acquired skills should also help students use their language to successfully pass an interview.

  • 5. How to properly organize language courses, students' own ideas and suggestions about appropriate forms
  • 6. Working with dictionaries, forming related adjectives
  • 7. Invitation by phone, forms and important phrases, polite rejections
  • 8. World-famous companies and their current positions
  • 9. Subtitles in English -forms, use, differences from Czech, possibilities
  • 10. China - fastest developing economy in the world
  • 11. Offers and questions, important phrases, typical situations
  • 12. Use of the present perfect in English, simple and continuous form, examples
  • 13. Problem words that frequently occur together, making connections to remember them

Teaching methods
Class instruction is based on active student participation in dealing with select communicative situations both orally and in writing. Practical training takes the form of simulations of real-life scenarios focusing on situations in every-day life and professional environments. Simulations develop language skills and the ability to choose appropriate means of communication with respect to the specific situation and intercultural differences.
